Gretchen Troop graduated from the prestigious S.I. Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University in 1988 with a major in Illustration Photography. A focus on studio photography developed her eye for detail and precision apparent in her later work. Although she did not pursue a career as a studio photographer, choosing instead to become a professional singer, she has continued to love photography and shoot all over the world. Gretchen began shooting in black & white film, but was clearly a color photographer. She has an exceptional eye for color. Her photography was almost non-existent after college until she got her first digital camera. Gretchen's skill with computers made the digital camera an obvious choice. Her first digital, a Nikon Cool Pix 950 was purchased in 1999 and a whole new wave of photography began. Most of her work has been shot during her steady road trips from San Francisco to Boulder Colorado and back. Camping the whole way, she found the country between the two cities to be some of the most intensely beautiful in the world. Southern Utah was a common stop along the way. In 2003 she tired of living in the city and settled into a healthier way of life in Boulder, Colorado. In Boulder she bought a digital SLR camera, the Nikon D70. This allowed her the technical freedom to once again shoot professionally. Having the capabilities of the SLR camera and the ease of digitially processing the pictures was the final push needed to rekindle Gretchen's love of photography to a professional level. Currently Gretchen is releasing her photo collection to local galleries and selling her work to individuals. There is also a book of her photography available by appointment and many, many more photos than are shown online here. Please feel free to contact her to make an appointment to view her work. |
